OUTDOOR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY IN WEST YORKSHIRE

Family life is busy. It is so easy to be swept along in the endless day to day responsbilities of school runs, kids’ hobbies, work… The years pass and before you know it your cute little kids are teenagers.

Taking a few hours to capture their childhoods with a family photoshoot might seem hard to fit in to everyone’s busy schedules, but these images will be fond memories of time well spent together while they were growing up – I guarantee they’ll be worth it.

Even if they’re already grown up, my relaxed, ‘not cheesy’ family photoshoots are a great way to record your family life and create memories you can enjoy together forever.

YOUR FAMILY AT PLAY

At ease in a place you can relax, with no pressure to strike cringe-inducing poses or ‘perform’ for the camera.

We’ll take our time creating moments of fun and real connection, so the smiles are real and you all enjoy your experience and take happy memories away with you.

Whether it’s a walk in the woods, or games in the garden, we will create an experience that’s right for your unique family dynamic.

Some kids love the spotlight, others take a little while to warm up – my approach is to take your child’s lead and adapt my shooting style to suit them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the best time of year for an outdoor family photoshoot?

For me, the answer to this is always Spring and Autumn, because the light is so beautiful and there should be either pretty Spring flowers or the beautiful colours of Autumn as your backdrop.

That said, there is no bad time for a shoot if the weather is kind, and I’ve done shoots in the height of Summer and the depth of Winter – I’ve even been lucky with a well-timed snowfall once or twice!

What should we wear for our family photoshoot?

I’m often asked by clients what I would recommend they wear for their shoot.

Most importantly, wear something you feel comfortable and confident in.

After that I usually recommend the following:

  • Keep it simple
  • Coordinating colour palettes is more important than matching clothes – go for items that mean you will complement eachother and not clash
  • Stick to more muted colour tones such as dark colours or pastels, as these won’t reflect onto your or your family’s skin
  • Keep patterns small and prints ditsy – anything too big will detract from your faces. The same goes for logos or characters
  • Wear shoes appropriate to our chosen location – if we’re headed to woods feel free to bring some wellies!

Ultimately though, wear something you feel like ‘you’ in!

Can you recommend a location for our family photoshoot?

Absolutely! I have worked at a wide variety of locations around West Yorkshire and further afield.

If you’d like some assistance choosing a place for your shoot I’m happy to help!

What happens if it rains, or one of us is ill?

In the case of bad weather we will mutually agree whether or not to postpone the shoot. Generally, if it’s too wet, windy or cold for the kids (or any one else!) to have a good time, then we’ll plan another date for your family photography session.

For larger groups it can be difficult to find an alternative date that suits everyone, in which case we can plan to have the shoot in your home if that is preferable to rescheduling.

In the case of illness of either you, your children, or myself, we will postpone your shoot until everyone is better.

We have children in school, can we have our shoot on a weekend?

I do offer weekend slots for families, and they do fill up in advance.

I’d recommend booking in early, especially if you’d like your shoot at a popular time of year.

Can we include extended family members at the shoot?

Of course! My shoots are priced by the length of time shooting and number of resulting images, NOT per person. If you’d like to include the grandparents, cousins, in-laws, that is just up to you.

Only my mini-shoot is limited to immediate family only.

How far are you willing to travel?

I’m based just outside of Halifax and am happy to travel all over Yorkshire and beyond. As standard my family packages include travel within 15 miles of my house, and I charge a small mileage fee for anywhere further.

Can I view your prices before I commit to booking?

Yes, of course. Simply fill in the small form further up the page, or contact me by email or phone and I will send the package brochure straight over for you.

What about pets? Can they be included?

Yes, pets are such important members of the family! As long as they are happy with me photographing them, they are very welcome to join in your shoot.

What does outdoor family photography cost?

My family shoots are digital packages and are priced based on the length of shoot. The packages range from £245 to £595, with an option to add printed products with a discount on list price upon viewing. For more information, please contact me.

We would prefer printed products rather than digital images - is this possible?

Although my family packages are based on receiving digital images, I’m very happy to discuss alternatives with you. I offer a range of really beautiful printed products and am very happy to put together a bespoke package for you. Just let me know what you’d like and we’ll go from there.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

I do! I have some lovely gift vouchers which are available for any amount from £25.
